Lifesaver

I made this for a friend as a house warming gift. He wanted me to paint him a copy of a David Hockney painting - Rubber ring floating in a swimming pool - but I had other ideas. This is quite heavy and I hung it on his wall with some special heavy duty hardware, but he took it down afraid it would fall and kill someone. It found its way back up to my house. The rubber ring is here, only now a lifesaver. Yes that is a strip of a mirror I had a mirror shop cut for me. It is supposed to be the part of the beach where the waves crash on the sand. The black strip at the bottom is supposed to be the road going past the beach...I had a lot of fun making the hills with the grass. I put yellow and green paint on the wood and dragged a large wood saw down it, the teeth dragging in the paint giving it a nice three dimensional quality.
